The Bill Koch Youth Ski Program
The Bill Koch Youth Ski
League
(BKYSL) offers Nordic ski
programs
for
boys and girls 13 years old and
younger.
Depending
on facilities in your
area you may be able to try
cross
country
skiing, ski jumping, Nordic
combined,
ski
orienteering, even tennis ball
biathlon.
The whole idea of the program
is
to have
fun on cross country skis.
|
The program is named for Olympic Silver medalist Bill Koch, who began
skiing in the early 70's in a local youth ski club in Vermont. |
| When you join NYSSRA's BKYSL program you will receive a patch
for your
jacket, a membership card, and materials describing activities
throughout
the Mid-Atlantic Region were you can have fun on snow with other youth
with your same interests. You will also receive information about
our K's for Kochers program where you can earn an award for the number
of kilometers you ski during the season.

If you live in an area where there is an active club you will
be able
to join other youth for fun and games on snow. These clubs may be
sponsored by schools, civic groups, ski touring centers, recreation
departments,
ski clubs, or a group of families and friends. Your local club
may
have an additional membership fee to cover club materials and supplies.

Koch Youth Ski Clubs - list of leaders in the Mid-Atlantic region
who
have a local club or who are interested in starting a local club. |
| Each year there is a Mid-Atlantic Bill Koch Festival where
young skiers
from all over the Mid-Atlantic Region meet for fun, games, special
events
and competitions. This event attracts over 100 skiers and have
special
features generally associated with a major national ski event
The whole point of NYSSRA’s Bill Koch Youth Ski League program
is to
get kids and even families out of doors to enjoy winter; share the fun
of Nordic ski sport; and benefit from the fitness that our fun and
games
provide. If you enjoy Nordic ski sport either recreationally or
competitively,
your coach or leader will help you move to the next levels of
opportunities
in our winter sports.
