New York
State Ski Racing Association – Nordic, Inc. has developed an initiative to
encourage an increased role by local clubs in promoting Nordic ski sports in
neighborhoods and communities throughout the region.
This is called the Presidential Citation.
A basic outline of
minimum criteria has been established to be an effective local ski club.
Each club will keep track of your progress toward these objectives
and let NYSSRA Nordic know, in writing, prior to or at the annual spring
meeting that you meet the criteria. You can use the form
letter attached or a more formal letter on your club letterhead, mail it
to Janice Sibilia, President, 6 Orbit Lane, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533.
Please consider
this possibility for your local club. If these minimum
criteria are not something you can achieve this year, consider it for a
future year. If the size of your club dictates that you
can’t do it alone, try getting together with other local efforts and do this
together.
Each major objective starts with a first step. Your
club’s first step is to renew your club membership/affiliation with NYSSRA
Nordic if you have not already done so. Club membership
fees remain the same as family membership. Remember that
you or your club can request a certificate of insurance for any and all of
your local ski events.
If you have questions, comments or other ideas how we might improve the club
system in the Mid-Atlantic region please contact Janace Sibilia, President
at the above address, by e-mail at jansibilia@aol.com or by phone at
845-896-5761.
Until NYSSRA Nordic establishes an officials or
coaches certification program use the following definitions:
-
Officials: have demonstrated experience to host safe local ski
events, give safe lessons, officiate an ESG qualifier, attend NYSSRA –
Nordic meetings and communicate back to clubs.
-
Coaches: meets NYSPHSAA requirements or level 1 coaches
certification by USSA, USBA, USOF, or NENSA.
