Wednesday Freestyle race results....

I'm sure everyone has had a chance to check out results from Wednesday's race, but some Mid-Atlantic team highlights include:

Steve Mangan 7th place J2 boys
Charlie Bencze 29th J2 boys as a first year J2

Carly Wynn 15th place J2 girls
Amanda Moreland 29th place J2 girls

We had a very easy ski yesterday to preview the classic courses. Similiar terrain with tough climbs and transitions. The mass start classic race today will be exciting to watch. Again, you can follow live results by the links through the JO website at http://www.2008juniorolympics.org

Our last 48 hours in Alaska will be busy with 2 races (classic mass start today, relay tomorrow), a banquet/awards ceremony and getting the team organized to fly out tomorrow night.

Tuesday JO Team update....

Tomorrow's race has been changed to the freestyle interval start, with the J2s and J1/OJ girls racing 5 km and J1/OJ boys racing 10 km. The race organizers are hoping we'll get some snow and be able to hold a mass start classic race on Friday. This morning was taken up by a course preview ski at Kincaid Park to check out the 5 km skate loop -- rolling terrain with good climbs and technical corners/downhills -- eastern conditions should work to our advantage.

Live results tomorrow can be viewed at http://www.summittiming.com/live_results/  or on the JO website

J1/OJ girls start at 10 AM (Alaska time)
J2 girls start at 11:10 AM
J2 boys start at 12:10 PM
J1/OJ boys start at 12:50 PM

We are still up at the race venue and Steve just finished his flower (actually cow bell) ceremony. He qualified 6th this morning, grabbed second in the quarterfinals, first in the semifinals and skied an impressive final heat, making his move up and over the final climb to take FIRST in the A final. A great day for Steve, Honeoye-Falls Lima Nordic, the Mid-Atlantic team and NY Skiing. Congratulations Steve!

Carly Wynn also had a great day in the J2 girls. She qualified 18th, along with teammate Amanda Moreland sneaking in the heats in 24th place. Carly worked her way up through the heats to finish an impressive 6th overall in J2 girls!

Nick Mancuso qualified 18th this morning in J1 boys.

More to come later.

Hello parents and coaches,

We have settled in at the Holiday Inn Express in Anchorage and we are looking forward to the races, starting on Monday with the Classic Sprint. Snow is limited up here, but we'll get a chance to check out the sprint course tomorrow. The kids are ready to race east-coast-style with some klister kicking!

Follow the action (including race results and photos) on the JO website at http://www.anchoragenordicski.com/jo2008/index.html
